A Room of Her Own Foundation (AROHO)
A Room of Her Own Foundation (AROHO) was founded in 2000, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to end the isolation of creative women. Since AROHO’s inception, it has channeled more than one million in publicly gifted dollars to new awards, fellowships and life-changing opportunities for women, and has inspired thousands of books and works of art by women. I have attended four of their summer writing retreats in the New Mexico desert at Ghost Ranch, and now have the great honor to be serving on the board of directors as they re-imagine themselves to a new future.
Saddle Road Press, founded in 2011, is a small literary press located in Hilo, on the Big Island of Hawai’i. In 2013 they founded the Forty-Three North Chapbook Series – named for the latitude of Lake Erie – to honor their long-time home near Buffalo. Now that SRP is permanently settled back home in Hawai’i, they are focusing more on writing from and about the Pacific. Nevertheless, they are primarily looking for work that moves and delights them. They are open to older writers, to non-MFA writers, to performance pieces, to writers whose first language is not English. They are interested in poetry, literary fiction, memoir and essays.
All of the author photos on this site and on my blogs were taken by Jamie Clifford. Jamie is currently working nationally in the U.S., frequently in California, New Mexico and Ohio. and specializes in custom portraiture, weddings, love stories, events of all sizes, and macro landscapes. She is also the official photographer for AROHO. She was able to get great photos of Ripley by saying “Cookie?” before each shot – even though it made her feel terribly guilty. Ripley did get a huge, wonderful cookie after the photo session.
